Product Introduction
The heated platen press integrates hydraulic drive with electric heating. A wet handsheet is placed between the upper and lower heated platens; the hydraulic system applies controlled pressure while the electric heating system provides precise temperature, enabling the sheet to dry and consolidate under combined heat and pressure. The high-retention hydraulic cylinder allows the pump to shut off automatically once the target pressure is reached, with the system maintaining constant pressure via accumulator components for silent, energy-efficient operation. The PID intelligent temperature controller ensures uniform and stable platen temperatures. The unit offers dual functionality—cold pressing for dewatering and hot pressing for thermoforming and calendering—with flexible setting of pressure, temperature, and time parameters to meet diverse application needs from standard sheet preparation to functional composite material molding.

FAQ
1. What is the main difference between the Heated Platen Press and the Pneumatic sheet press?
The Heated Platen Press uses a hydraulic drive for higher pressure (0-5 MPa) and integrates an electric heating system, enabling simultaneous heat drying or thermoforming during pressing. The pneumatic press is primarily designed for standard cold-pressing dewatering with lighter operation. Choose the heated model when hot calendering or thermoforming capabilities are required.

2. How long does the pressure hold after shutdown? Why is this feature useful?
Pressure holds for more than 4 hours after pump shutdown. This means the pump automatically stops once the target pressure is reached, and the system maintains constant pressure via accumulator components. This feature saves energy, reduces noise, and enables long-duration pressing under stable pressure—ideal for specialized processes requiring extended holding times.

3. How is temperature set and controlled? What is the accuracy?
Temperature is set via a PID intelligent temperature controller with an accuracy of ±3°C. Both upper and lower platens are equipped with heating elements and temperature sensors. The PID controller automatically adjusts heating power based on real-time temperature feedback, ensuring uniform and stable platen surface temperatures for various material hot-pressing requirements.

4. What specimen sizes can the press handle? Can multiple sheets be pressed at once?

The pressing area of 320×300 mm accommodates specimens up to this size. Multiple standard φ159 mm circular handsheets can be stacked and pressed simultaneously; the specific number depends on sheet thickness and process requirements. Larger square sheets or wood-based panel specimens can also be processed.

5. Does the hydraulic system require regular maintenance?
The hydraulic system is designed as a sealed, maintenance-free unit that requires minimal attention under normal operating conditions. Periodic checks of the hydraulic oil level and quality are recommended. Top up or replace the hydraulic oil if the level is low or oil degradation is observed. Refer to the user manual for specific maintenance intervals.

6. Can it be used for pressing non-paper materials?
Yes. In addition to handsheet hot pressing and pulp molding, the press can be used for wood-based panel hot pressing, composite material lamination, biomass material densification, and other experiments. As long as the specimen dimensions are within the platen area and the required temperature does not exceed 180°C, both hot and cold pressing experiments can be conducted.

Hot pressing and thermoforming are important process steps in laboratory handsheet preparation and composite material research. In the standard handsheet preparation workflow, pressing follows sheet formation and uses mechanical pressure to expel excess water from the wet web, bringing fibers into intimate contact to form hydrogen bonds that enhance the density, strength, and smoothness of the finished paper. heated platen pressing adds a thermal dimension to this process, allowing the sheet to dry under combined heat and pressure, which further promotes interfiber bonding and enables hot calendering to improve surface gloss and smoothness. The Heated Platen Press combines hydraulic drive with integrated electric heating, offering the dual functionality of cold-press dewatering and hot-press thermoforming. Its high-retention hydraulic system maintains constant pressure for extended periods even after the pump stops, making it particularly suitable for composite material consolidation and biomass panel pressing experiments that require long holding times. This equipment is widely used in laboratories and QC facilities across the pulp and paper, packaging, bio-based materials, and composite materials sectors, serving as a vital experimental platform bridging laboratory specimen preparation and industrial hot-pressing processes.
